Jimi X Who What Wear

Hello, Everyone!!!.

Fall is officially here but it was very warm last week when me and my boyfriend went to go see the movie "The Birth of A Nation", and I must say it is must see. I was able to wear my mules for probably the last time. *single tear cry*
If this jacket look familiar, it is from the Who What Wear collection from Target. I had my eyes on this frayed denim jacket since its release so I was super excited when it was on clearance for less than $12. I paired it with my favorite graphic Jimi Hendrix t-shirt and a black midi.

Dashing Women

Hello, Everyone!!!!.

Last week I attended a company gala that called for a semi-formal dress code, and immediately I went into panic mode. Mentally I went over what I had in my closet and realized I didn't have anything that followed those guidelines. A day before the gala I ended up finding a two piece lace set in dark green that I planned on wearing as a dress, by tucking the top into the skirt, as a back up outfit. However on the day of the gala I changed my mind when I rediscovered this burgundy velvet suit in my closet. If you haven't heard, velvet is a big trend for this fall season. It is definitely attention grabbing and for good reason it screams LUXE!!!. I've never receive so many compliments in one night in my life clearly I made the right choice.

The End of Summer

Hello, Everyone!!!.

I brought this two piece set from Target at least two years ago and it's still trendy today. I've worn the pieces of this set on the blog, however only with other pieces in my closet but never together. It goes to show you if you shop smart for trendy pieces, you should be able to rework them for different seasons with other items. It is that time of the year when the early morning temperatures are slightly cooler than midday so I decided to pair the two piece set with a denim jacket. The head to toe print allowed me to keep the accessories and shoes nice and simple.

Bombs Over Brooklyn

Hello, Everyone!!!!.

I can't believe we are literally days away from Fall. Last friday we got a brief preview of what's to come,  hence the floral print bomber I have draped over my shoulders.  Fall happens to be one of my seasons because I can get away with wearing my summer favorites with this bomber jacket. Bomber jackets are a must have for fall and very versatile. I wore this outfit to class and then later for date night. I paired the floral bomber jacket with highwaisted pants and a tank top that I cropped myself. I've been wearing my D.I.Y choker with pretty much everything, so it made the perfect accessory with the bomber.

Two 90's trend in one outfit for the win !!

Essence Style

Hello, Everyone!!!.

I've been waiting for the perfect opportunity to take pictures in front of this colorful brick wall along the BQE, and luckily I was giving the opportunity last weekend, thanks to the Essence Street Style Block Party in Dumbo. I went to the first annual Essence Street Style with my mom but this time around I went with my boyfriend.

When we first arrived, we made a beeline for the food trucks to gain some energy for the festivities. As always they were plenty of natural hair and style stars in the building. I saw some of my favorite bloggers including honoree Blake Von D, HeyGorJess, Taren Guy, and also singer Kelly Rowland. After being in the scorching heat for hours, it was nice to top the day off with a refreshing pineapple filled with Blue Hawaiian cocktail.  Sorry I didn't get any pics, it was just too good I couldn't resist.

P.S. I have to give full credit to my boyfriend who helped me picked out my outfit because I matched so seamlessly with the background.

D.I.Y Kind of Girl

Hello, Everyone !!!.

If you grew up in the 90's and beyond, you know that there is nothing new under the sun. I remember tattoo chokers as a kid but back then they didn't give the best image for the girls who wore them. However today they have mass appeal and have become more stylish and grown up. Chokers have made a big comeback for S/S '16,  they are a great pairing to the off the shoulder trend which is a nod to the 70's.  However along with popularity,  chokers can be a bit more expensive than their tattoo plastic counterparts. I've looked online and saw prices ranging from $3 -$100 if you are like me and do not want to spend a lot of money on a trend that may fade again, you should try creating your own using supplies in your home.

Supplies you'll need for string choker
  • A medium- large shopping or gift bag handles (I used a bag from Brooklyn Industries)
  • A bolt or keychain ring
For the keyhole choker, I removed one handle of the shopping bag. I didn't have a available keyring so I used a bolt that was in my "just in case of emergency" drawer.  I folded the handle in half, placing the bolt on the folded end. Once the bolt was secured, I gently placed the handle over my head with the bolt in front. When I lined the bolt in the center, I took the ends (the unfolded side) of handle and place them outside of the bolt and tied them in the back of my neck.

Supplies you'll need for lace choker
  • Old lace panties
For the lace choker, I used a old pair of lace panties, I  started to rough cut the lace waistband off and discarded the rest. Once the waistband was cut off I neatly trimmed off any excess material and voila it was complete. The lace has enough elasticity so I can wrap the choker around my head twice and then adjust to my liking.

I hope you like my recreation, let me know if you try it out.

Until next time, XOXO

Easy Breezy Coral-Girl

Hello, Everyone!!!.

It is the last unofficial weekend of the Summer and my first post of September. Before Hurricane Hermine puts a damper on the labor day weekend I decided to rock this coral high-low dress one last time. I gravitate towards this dress every season because its screams summer but it also great to wear on cooler summer days. Normally I pair it with cognac accessories and shoes but this time around I choose nude cage heels and snakeskin bag. I changed the look of the dress by wearing it slightly off my shoulders to be on trend.
